Valdepenas city of Ciudad Real province, in the autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha, south central Spain. The city lies on the left bank of the Jabalon River, southeast of the city of Ciudad Real. Situated in a fertile area of La Mancha plain, it is the centre of a grape-growing district, the wines of which are among the most popular in Spain. The first records about Valdepe�as in Order of Calatrava appears at the beginning of the thirteenth century. Remains of Bronze Age, Iberian, Roman, Visigothic, Muslim and Jewish cultures have been found in the city and surrounding area.
